This is designed to help users navigate the “Cadet of West Point” web site (www.westpointcadets.org).

The "Cadets of West Point" web site helps young men and women (high school students and serving soldiers) discover today’s West Point’s cadets.  Today's cadets are not only future leaders of character for our Army, but excellent role models for young Americans, many of whom yearn to follow in their footsteps!

Below is a general description of the site's navigation system.  (Note that each image on the right includes a hyperlink to that web page.)

The home page (Image 1) is http://www.westpointcadets.org/.

This describes the purpose of the site and includes several photos (with direct links) of currently participating cadets.  On the left side and bottom of the page are links to the “Cadets Map”, an historical “Background” page, West Point, the USMA Prep School, West Point Admissions, the Association of Graduates, Virtual West Point and West-Point.Org.

1

You can access a current list of cadets by going to the “Cadets Map” (Image 2) and clicking either on a state or one of the two special links displayed below the map.

One of these special links takes you to a listing of current cadets who are US citizens but whose hometowns are somewhere other than the United States.

The other special link takes you to a listing of current cadets who are not US citizens but are foreign nationals known as “International Cadets”.

2

These lists* (Image 3) display individual hometowns, names and classes as well as an Athena’s helmet for those cadets who have individual web pages.  By clicking on the Athena’s helmet, the individual cadet’s cadet web page is opened.  This list can be resorted alphabetically by name or by class by clicking on the appropriate column heading.

____________________________

* Note that none of these lists are include all cadets from that area because not every cadet has chosen to participate.

Individual cadet web pages come from two sources:

Most are created using information provided by the cadet through submission of an Individual Cadet Input Form found at  (http://www.westpointcadets.org/CadetInput.htm).

4

This is a sample of an individual web page created using information submitted through this form (Figure 5).

(Note that this cadet is a First Classman - In November First Classmen receive their branch assignments.  As soon as a First Classman lets me know his/her branch assignment, the branch insignia replaces the cadet saber image immediately below the cadet's name.  The branch insignia is linked to the appropriate branch web site.)

5

Some individual cadet web pages are available only as varsity team web pages on the official Army Athletics web site (Figure 6).

Many varsity athletes have also created an individual "Cadets of West Point' web page (Figure 5).  For those cadets, their varsity sport entry is linked to the Cadet's varsity team web page.

6

Returning to the individual web pages created from the “Cadet Input Form”, note that the cadet’s photo, class crest, class motto, military awards and cadet awards are all displayed as images (Figure 7)

The cadet photo is provided by the cadet (or his/her parents) (in hard copy or electronic image) and the cadet has specifically granted permission to display the photo on his/her web page.

7

By clicking on the image of the class crest the user goes to a page (Figure 8) explaining the meaning of that class crest.  Each class crest is designed and approved by the class’s Ring & Crest Committee.  The crest is normally unveiled in early Spring of Plebe year. The class motto (displayed below the flag) is selected and formally announced at the conclusion of Cadet Basic Training (CBT).

8

Most military awards are linked to a description of the purpose of the award, the specific criteria necessary to receive the award and an explanation of the history of that award (Figure 9).

9

Cadet awards are linked to a description of the purpose of each cadet award and the criteria necessary to receive those awards (Figure 10).

10

Note that the "International Cadets" page (Figure 11) contains an alphabetical listing (by country) of cadets from all over the world.

11

On the "International Cadets" page there is a flag symbol displayed next to each cadet's home country.  Each flag image is linked to a map (Figure 12) showing the location of that country and facts and figures about that country.

12

A Cadets of West Point Power Point slide show (Figure 13) is available for downloading from the internet.  The slide show includes cadets from every state and from all over the world.  The slide show is intended for use by Admissions representatives (to be displayed as students assemble to hear about the West Point opportunity), by West Point Parents Clubs, by West Point Societies, and by Classes (to inform members of the Long Gray Line about today's cadets).

Only those cadets who have provided cadet photos are considered for inclusion in this slide show.

If a cadet has an individual web page on this site I encourage him/her to periodically verify its content for accuracy and if changes are needed, send me an email message describing the changes or fill in and submit a Cadet Update Form (http://www.westpointcadets.org/CadetUpdate.htm).  (If the cadet’s web page is on the Army Athletics Web Site, I don’t control those – those changes have to be made through ODIA.)

I encourage ALL cadets to participate in this important admissions resource (nearly 3,000 cadets are currently listed).

I also encourage West Point Parents Clubs, West Point Classes, West Point Societies and Members of Congress to provide links to this site on their web sites.

GO ARMY!
